Nathan Baker has returned to Bristol City from Aston Villa.

However, this time his spell at Ashton Gate is a permanent one as the defender has signed a four year deal at City.

Baker spent the 2015-16 season on loan with Bristol City, upon the Championship return, and went on to make 38 appearances for the Robins on that occasion, scoring once.

A delighted Lee Johnson told the Official Website how happy he was to welcome Baker, 26, back to Ashton Gate, permanently this time.

‘Nathan is a quality signing. He`s a very good defender who is held in high regard, said Johnson.

Adding: ‘Nathan knows all about Bristol City, having been here before, and we now have strong competition for places in defence. Nathan has played in the Premier League before and is still only 26. We`re absolutely delighted to have signed a player of his quality.’

Baker, who came through the academy at Aston Villa, breaking into the first team squad in 2008 before being sent out loan a couple of times, made his debut for Villa in January 2011.

Due to a sending off last season Baker will sit out the Championship curtain raiser but will be back for his second Bristol City debut, funnily enough against Aston Villa’s Second City rivals Birmingham, on August 12th.
