Blackburn Just Too Good For Robins

Blackburn knocked City out of the FA Cup in an empty looking Ewood Park without too much trouble on Saturday afternoon.

It was no great surprise given City’s form of late and coming up against a side that looks to have been rejuvenated since caretaker manager Gary Bowyer took over first team affairs.

The Robins did little to stop Rovers from trotting into Sunday’s draw; they showed very little ambition and looked at times like they wished they had not got to be there.

In fact it only took the home side seven minutes to get their noses in front and it was a rare goal from Danny Murphy, he picked up the ball from Mark Wilson and after making a bee-line for the City goal, he unleashed a shot from a good 25 yards that gave Tom Heaton no chance.

Heaton had more luck in stopping a Colin Kazim Richard’s effort a short time later, tipping the ball around the post, the same player then clipped the top of the net after collecting the ball from Ruben Rochina.

In first-half stoppage time, Liam Fontaine headed the ball on for Taylor to get an effort o goal, but Jake Kean in the Rovers’ goal was on form to stop any danger.

With the game approaching the hour mark, Murphy sent over a corner that was only partly cleared by the City defence, Rochina clipped the ball back in and it fell nicely for the talented Grant Hanley to bundle over the line to make it 2-0.
