Bristol City progressed to the second round of the Capital One cup last night by beating Gillingham 2-0 at the Priestfield Stadium.

It’s been four years since City last saw a league cup win and the heroes for the Robins last night were Sam Baldock and Jordan Wynter who both grabbed a goal each to give their side a comfortable victory.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas showed good form again by setting up the first goal by leaving two Gills players behind and getting to the by-line before cutting the ball back for Baldock to score.

And the former Ipswich man was on hand to help with the second when he fired in a low shot that was blocked and Wynter was the quickest off the mark and added number two.

City could have had more goals before Wynter struck, Baldock saw a header tipped onto the post by Gillingham keeper Stuart Nelson and Wynter saw a header come back off the crossbar.

The victory was no more than City deserved and went a little way to getting back some revenge on Gillingham for past league cup games.
