The Bristol Post earlier said that the Ivory Cost international signing could become a record for the Championship because the fee could apparently rise to £17million (initial fee £15m)

The 26-year-old cost Bristol City £2.5 and scored 20 in his first season with the Robins.

Their official site explain:

‘Kodjia departs for Villa as City’s club record sale after clubs agree £15m fee’ adding that is four times the previous club record for them.

They also say he’s signed a 4 year deal with Villa. Oh and looks like the Bristol Post is wrong, it’s an initial fee of £11m rising to £15million.

Chief operating officer Mark Ashton said: ‘We`ve continually told Jonathan that we don`t want him to go, but recently he`s made it clear that he`s aware of the interest of other clubs and that he wanted to leave.

‘After lengthy discussions with (head coach) Lee Johnson, the board and importantly (majority shareholder) Steve Lansdown, we felt that if we got the right offer we would allow him to leave.’
