This is essential reading for any true fan of Bristol City Football Club. Strangely enough it covers my entire life from 1967 up to promotion in 2007. It is one of a series of club histories published by Desert Island Books
Every season is reviewed in some detail with David Woods’ back room insight explaining the reasons for fluctuating fortunes on the pitch. A match of the season is then described even more intimately. It evokes memories of the game itself no matter whether it was ten, twenty, thirty or forty years ago.
Added to this are the season by season statistics at the end of the book. Every game since 19th August 1967 is recorded with full squads for the home and away side, scorer details, details of full and half time scores, detail of the attendance. The final league table is published for each season and a full squad appearance and goalscoring record given.
For me the one line description of each and every league and cup game is an astounding acheivement. A summary shows overall stats such as games won from being behind, high spots and low spots as well as player of the year and leading scorer details. It is this that makes the book special. All those arguments in the pub before the game as memories fade can be one with reference to David Woods record of the events.
Add to that some fine photos over and the clubs last forty years is mapped beautifully for those that like their nostalgia. A great learning aid for young Robins. And a must for all Stattos.

David Woods has been a regular at Ashton Gate for over 50 years. He is the Official Club Historian. His attention to detail is astonishing and this publication takes pride of place on my coffee table.
