Bristol City striker Steve Brooker has completed a rumoured £100,000 move to fellow Championship side Doncaster Rovers.

Brooker moved to Ashton Gate in September 2004 from Port Vale for a fee of £225,000 when Brian Tinnion was manager. The striker scored 16 goals in 34 matches as he partnered fellow goal scorer Leroy Lita in the fire line.

The following season the target man netted another 16 goals but City’s number 9 would then enter the toughest period of his career. Brooker was sentenced to one month in prison along with two other City players and when he returned to the squad his remaining time at City was hindered by injury.

After two years of cameo appearances in between long-term injuries Brooker revived his career with a successful loan spell at Cheltenham Town – netting five goals in fourteen matches. Brooker returned to City with a hero’s return as he bagged a last minute winner in front of the East End against Norwich City.

Brooker described the moment as the loudest he had heard the City crowd during his stay but it would the last time he’d hear the fans roar one of his 36 goals.

After spending this season on the sidelines for City, Brooker was allowed to move to Doncaster on loan with a view-to-move clause. Brooker scored on his debut but would again find himself in the medical room days later, however he now finds himself fit enough to complete the move.

Although not yet fit enough for first team action, Steve Brooker will no doubt help Doncaster in their fight to retain their Championship status.
