Hull City manager Steve Bruce could have been celebrating promotion this morning but relegated Bristol City at least delayed that happening for a little while after a 0-0 draw at the KC Stadium.

Bruce says it was simply down to nerves why his team failed to beat the league’s bottom club on their own patch.

And it wasn’t the sort of game that Bristol City fans were expecting to see as the Robins kept the home side at bay, restricting them to just four shots on target, a figure that the visitors matched.

But speaking to Sky Sports News after the game, Bruce said: ‘It was a bit of nerves, edginess.

‘We were desperately trying too hard to do too well and getting wrapped up in the whole thing.

‘It’s what it is. Today the expectation got the better of us – we forgot how to play the game unfortunately.

‘We knew it was a big, important game for us all. One thing we have done over past three months is handle the occasion, that’s the disappointing thing.’
