The 2016-17 season seems a distant memory, which will be the case as football never sleeps. As such, plans are afoot, most now in place, as far as Bristol City’s pre-season preparations are concerned ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.

It will be here before we know it and another tester for the Robins ahead of the 2017-18 Championship season has seen a pre-season friendly against Cheltenham announced.

Bristol City will head to Whaddon Road for this meeting with ex-boss Gary Johnson’s side, of course the father of Robins chief Lee too, Cheltenham on Tuesday 25th July, kick off has been confirmed as 7:45pm.

Of course, as with any pre-season friendly, the main thing to get from this is a challenge and the continuation of fitness being built up – a game such as this should tick all the relevant boxes.

This pre-season friendly will form the latest phase of boss Lee Johnson’s preparations as he looks to guide the Robins to success in the Championship next season.

Having met last season it was Lee who had the bragging rights as Bristol City won the ‘Johnson Cup’ after a 2-1 win. Gary, back in the dugout after heart surgery, will want to restore family pride and show his son he’s still the master – we’ll hope he doesn’t.

Confirmed pre-season schedule.

Sunday, July 9th (4pm) v Bristol Manor Farm (A)
Tuesday, July 11th (7.45pm) v Bath City (A)
Wednesday, July 12th (7.30pm) v Torquay United (A)
