Diego De Girolamo has joined his hometown club Chesterfield on loan for the remainder of the season.

Bristol City do have the option of recalling the forward in January though.

Loans manager and club ambassador Brian Tinnion told Official Website: ‘This season-long loan will give Diego the chance to go out and get games under his belt – and hopefully some goals in league football too.’

De Girolamo, who reportedly once courted interest from Italian giants Juventus, has managed just the one appearance for City since joining as a free agent from Sheffield United in July 2016.

However, his deal was extended last January.

After making his debut against Scunthorpe in the League Cup, having been loaned to Cheltenham last season, De Girolamo, 21, will have another chance to play regular football at League Two level with Chesterfield.

During this spell all will hope the goals can flow if he is playing regularly – he scored a hat trick for the U23 side against Burnley in the Professional Development League recently.
