Derek McInnes took his side up to one of his old stamping grounds at the weekend and saw his side go down 2-1 to St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.


Rowan Vine did the damage to City in the first half of the game, he hit a double to give the home side a commanding lead before the break.


In the second half, City came back into the game and Jon Stead headed home a goal for City but it was all they could manage.


But the result meant very little at this stage.


‘As we said prior to coming on the trip, the aim was making sure fitness levels were right for the games,’ the boss told Bristol City Player.


‘The training camp was all about fitness, but this is all about games and recovery. For all the work, we needed a game.
