City go for Stead

City have launched a £200,000 bid for out-of-favour Ipswich front-man Jon Stead, according to Sky Sports.com today.

Stead was on-loan at Coventry last season and was expected to complete a permanent deal this summer.

But the Sky Blues pulled the plug on the deal when Chris Coleman was sacked and it seems City manager Steve Coppell is trying to nip in and bag a bargain.

Stead, 27, is one of a host of players Ipswich manager Roy Keane is trying to bomb out and was linked with a return to his hometown club Huddersfield recently.
