Bristol City started the new season in league one with a draw against Bradford City at Ashton Gate on Saturday.

The game finished 2-2 and City saw two of their new summer signings find the net in a game that perhaps they should have won due to the effort put in by the side and especially Jay Emmanuel-Thomas who looks like he could prove to be a great signing for the Robins.

But City could have been behind early in the game when Wells got his head to a Yeates free kick but saw his effort hit the post.

But on 11 minutes Sean O’Driscoll’s men announced their arrival in the third tier of English football when Emmanuel-Thomas went on a run for goal, but could not get past all the challenges that came in and the ball fell for Wagstaff who opened his account with the Robins by firing a shot in of the post and City were one up.

City had a couple of chances to extend their lead, the best falling to Baldock who fired just wide and then with the clock approaching 35 minutes City were pegged back after a bit of a mix up at the back.

Again it was Yeates who sent in a ball which Fielding came out to get only to be beaten to the ball by Hanson who set up Wells who only had to beat a defender on the goal line.

Seemed a bit of a harsh way to end the half and the look on fan’s faces told the story that we had seen all this before last season.

After the break City had something of an onslaught on goal from Bradford they had to defend, but managed comfortably

Then City struck again. Emmanuel-Thomas laid the ball off to Bryan and ran on, Bryan then found Baldock and he in turn set up Emmanuel-Thomas who made no mistake with a low effort that beat the Bradford keeper and get the crowd on their feet once again.

Bradford didn’t look like they were about to give up and went forward, they went close through Wells.

City looked to be coping with the pressure pretty well but last season’s league two playoff winners had the ball in the net for a second equaliser with 11 minutes left on the clock.

De Vita put in another Bradford corner and McArdle found the net at the far post.

City did search for another goal but the closest they came was when Wagstaff saw an effort with his head saved by McLaughlin in the Bantam’s goal.
