City boss Keith Millen is pulling out all the stops to resolve Nicky Maynard’s future before his squad reports back for pre-season training next month.

The 24-year-old was offered new terms last month, but progress has stalled as the ex-Crewe striker is on his second holiday of the summer.

And Maynard’s reluctance to put pen-to-paper has led to several media reports linking him with a move away from Ashton Gate, although Millen admits that he has yet to receive a single enquiry.

“There have been no developments since the end of the season,” Millen told the Bristol Evening Post.

“Nicky had a short break last month, came back in the other week for a fitness assessment and has gone away on holiday again.

“I’ve had no phone calls regarding Nicky and, when he comes back off holiday, I’ll have another sit down with him and try and get something sorted.

“Of course, it is a worry when a player enters the final year of his contract and sometimes clubs put them on the transfer list if they fear they may end up leaving for nothing.

“But I don’t want to go down that route, the club does not want to go down that route and I’m sure Nicky does not want that.

“He is happy here and he wants to come back and get his fitness up during pre-season and then have a good start to the season. That is how we both see it.

“If he comes back and signs his new deal, then things will settle down. If he doesn’t, then that is something the board of directors will have to look at and then make a club decision.”
