A Sone Aluko strike and an own goal by Cole Skuse was enough to give Hull City all the points against a lacklustre Bristol City side.

The visitors settled well and had the lead on nine minutes when some delightful interaction on the edge of the box resulted in Aluko firing past Tom Heaton.

Ahmed El Mohamady could have made it worse for City when he was put through on goal but he fired his shot straight at the keeper.

But City gradually got back into the game and they got their reward for some pressure on the Hull goal, Steve Davies slotting home his sixth goal of the season so far.

Early in the second half Hull could have made it 2-1 but Robert Koren’s long range effort smashed against the bar.

At the other end City hit the post when Jon Stead’s effort was tipped onto the woodwork by Amos in the Hull goal.

Then disaster struck for City when Heaton pushed away an effort from Aluko, but Quinn put the ball back into the middle and Coke Skuse was the unlucky one that the ball came off and went into the City net.

City nearly grabbed a late equaliser but after a cross from Briggs, Taylor’s header hit the bar before being grabbed by Amos.
