City Slump Again: Brentford Summary

Bristol City’s late problems were their downfall again last night as Sam Saunders and Clayton Donaldson gave Brentford a 2-1 victory at Ashton Gate.

Saunders, who was on as a substitute made City pay when he struck in the 79th minute when a mistake by Bobby Reid allowed Saunders to cut in and let go of a low shot that took a deflection and ended up in the back of the net giving Elliot Parish no chance.

And just to make sure that the points went home with the visitors, City failed to deal with a Saunders corner in the 86th minute and Clayton Donaldson was on hand to tap the ball home to make it 2-0.

And the late excitement to finish off a drab game came deep into stoppage time when Marlon Harewood was set up by Jay Emmanuel-Thomas when his shot was directed into Harewood’s path and he couldn’t miss.

City had dominated the game, especially in the first half but both sides were guilty of poor passing and City just could not create decent chances.

You now have to look back to March to find City’s last win in the league, a dismal run that now stretches to 21 games and Sean O’Driscoll must be feeling the pressure.
