City striker Brett Pitman sealed a 3-1 victory over Watford, after coming off the bench to wrap up the much-needed three points for the Robins.
The win – only our second in the last 10 games – lifts City further away from the drop-zone to ease relegation fears, but it looked like another one of those days when Watford took the lead in this game after 19 minutes.
The visitors had already been causing Watford some trouble as they pressed for the opening goal, but it was the Hornet’s opened the scoring.
Watford winger Don Cowie coolly slotting the ball past David James and City looked in trouble again.
But they were level just after the half-hour mark, with a little help from a ball boy!
The youngster gave the ball back to City winger Martyn Woolford with lightening speed and the former Scunthorpe wide man crossed for Nicky Maynard to mark his first start of the season with a goal and draw the scores level.
City then wasted a glorious chance to score a second, after Marvin Elliott evaded his onrushing team-mates for what would have been an easy tap in.
The home side wasted a chance when the ball came to an unmarked Adan Thompson who turned and fired well over the bar with the goal gaping.
After the break, the home side were rewarded a free-kick, which Cowie could curl just wide of the upright.
But it was the City fans who were celebrating on 69 minutes when Elliott met Maynard’s right-wing cross with a great header to give the Robins the lead.
Adomah was causing all kinds of problems down the right, and it was the ex-Barnet winger who tore through the home side’s defence before playing a slipping in Pitman, who smashed home an unstoppable shot to make it 3-1.
