Michael McIndoe and Liam Fontaine both scored second half goals tonight as City stretched their unbeaten run at the expense of Plymouth Argyle.

Mistakes from the Plymouth defence and goalkeeper ensured victory at Home Park on a night when once again the weather affected the play.

The match was set to be postponed just hours before kick-off before the two managers persuaded referee Paul Taylor to allow the match to take place- and it will be Johnson thanking his lucky stars it did.

City made one change to the team which started the Wolves encounter, replacing Peter Styver for Dele Adebola but CIty were under pressure for much of the first half.

Lee Johnson and Louis Carey were both in demand to stop shots from Plymouth fowards Karl Duguid and Steve MacLean early on before Jamie Mackie almost opened the scoring, producing a strong save Adriano Basso.

It took City until the closing stages of the first half to create anything of note as Adebola played a dangerous header across the face of goal, however City failed to challenge the keeper.

City’s half ended in further disappointment when Marvin Elliott suffered a groin injury forcing him to leave the play. He was replaced by McIndoe who would prove to swing the game in City’s favour.

The first of two fatal errors for Plymouth occurred on the hour mark as a poor clearance from the Argyle back-line allowed Maynard to play Michael McIndoe who used the post to ensure the opener for City.

Plymouth tried to come back at City with little success and City looked set to see out the game when they won a corner with minutes left on the clock. A tame corner looked like an easy picking for Plymouth keeper Roman Larrieu, however the keeper lost the ball on the line allowing Liam Fontaine to toe-poke the ball home.

City’s sixth win of the season gets them into the top half of the Championship and the result will please manager Gary Johnson who earlier asked City to maintain their recent form.
