David Clarkson notched for the reserves yesterday and immediately set his sights on regaining his place in the first team.
The Scot had started the season well in attack only to be one of many struck down by the mystery bug that has swept the squad.
But after being out for over three weeks, Clarkson got his first 90 minutes under his belt in yesterday’s 6-2 reserves drubbing of Swindon, scoring from 20-yards.
“It was good to get 90 minutes under my belt,” Clarkson told bcfc.co.uk.
“It was my first game back and I thought the team played some good football and obviously we bagged six goals.
“I’m getting there fitness-wise and I already feel a lot sharper and fitter. Another week’s training will do me the world of good as well.”
The ex-Motherwell striker was one of the first to be hit by the viral infection, which is thought to have been picked up from the club’s pre-season training camp in Portugal.
“The illness left me drained. I was floored by it and was just in bed – I had no energy at all.
“Hopefully I’ll reach 100 per cent in the next week-to-ten days and then it’s up to the gaffer with regards to the first team.”
Clarkson, who joined City in June for a fee that may rise to £600,000, may have to be patient to get his place back following the arrival and form of Costa Rican hitman Alvaro Saborio.
