Bristol City manager Steve Coppell says that his first job is to get the defence right in the City team, they have got to stop leaking goals to stand any chance of success this season.

Last season the Robins let in 65 goals in 46 games and Coppell knows that a record like that is going to win you nothing and he would like to see the side improve on last season`s tenth place finish.

Coppell told the Evening Post: ‘It’s simple really – you cannot let in 60-odd goals and expect to be successful.

‘Football is all about simple equations and the simplest of them all is that you need to score more goals than you let in to win matches.

‘There were too many heavy defeats last season and you cannot achieve anything when you are leaking that many goals. It is something I am aware of and I know I am going to have to work hard to tackle the matter.

‘Can we improve upon 65 goals conceded? I would hope so. I look at the goals the team let in last season and I use it as a marker. We have to be better and improve on that.’
