Deal collapses because of ‘ridiculous’ fee

City boss Keith Millen has spoken of his frustration, after being forced to withdraw from a loan deal because of a “ridiculous” fee.

With less than a week remaining until the transfer window shuts, Millen has yet to make a signing but has sold Danny Haynes to Barnsley.

“I spent all Sunday on the phone and I thought I was close to getting someone in,” Millen told bcfc.co.uk.

“In the end the club concerned came back to me with a ridiculous loan fee so that one is dead and buried.

“I think teams are going to try to hold on to their players right until the last minute. Often it’s a chain effect too, with clubs getting players in then freeing them up to let someone go.

“We are trying to get players in and if it doesn’t happen then it is not for the want of trying.”

Millen has seen his squad decimated by injury and he looks set to be without NINE first-teamer’s for Tuesday’s trip to Nottingham Forest.

Ironically, the player in question could have been Peterborough’s George Boyd, who went on loan to Forest this time last year and was being linked with a move to City in Monday’s edition of The Sun.
