Do Birmingham Have Flint Funds?

Well, based on the backing Birmingham now have our Championship rivals do, in theory, have the fund needs to sign Aden Flint.

However, Bristol City boss Lee Johnson isn’t sure Blues will actually match his valuation.

Flint has been valued at £10m, which falls well below the joint bid put in for both the City central defender and defensive partner Joe Bryan, leaving Johnson unconvinced Birmingham will meet the demands set by Robins owner Steve Lansdown.

The Championship season got underway with Flint on the bench but Johnson insisted he hasn’t fallen out with the defender and the reception he received at Ashton Gate when he came on in the weekend win proves how highly regarded he is.

Johnson told Sky Sports: ‘I am not convinced Birmingham have the money to do that, but it’s important we leave the door open for Aden. We haven’t fallen out. You saw the reception he got from the fans, everybody loves him here.’

The boss would sooner know now what’s going to happen with Flint and is planning for all eventualities but admitted if the transfer window closed now he would be a very happy man.

‘We just move on whether he stays or goes, but that’s the problem sometimes with the window. If it shut tomorrow I would be absolutely delighted,’ said Johnson.
