Wade Elliott and John Pemberton took charge of their last game against Charlton at the Valley on Saturday and bowed out with a win.

Not just any old win, the valuable three points was enough to lift the club out of the bottom three and with Johnson taking full charge on Monday you can only imagine that things are going to get better.

The moment that won the game came in the 20th minute when Johann Gudmundsson pushed Lee Tomlin over in the box and although the striker’s penalty was not exactly the best in the World, it still went in and that was enough to grab the points.

Elliott was pleased that the side had stuck to the game plan and were rewarded with the points, he told Sky Sports after the game: ‘It was always going to be a scrappy game given our respective positions in the league and with the swirly wind.

‘It was difficult to play good attacking football under that pressure and in those conditions but we managed the game very well.

‘We defended well, limited them to few opportunities and we looked lively on the counter.

‘It’s credit to the players, they are a really good bunch. The manager coming in has inherited a good group of players, there are some great characters and he has come into a good place.’
