Following yesterday’s clash between Watford and Bristol City, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Watford hosted Bristol City at Vicarage Road on Saturday January 6, with the hosts taking a three nil victory.

Andre Carrillo gave them the advantage in the 37rd minute and making his starting return following a four game ban, club skipper Troy Deeney doubled the lead just ahead of the hour mark.

A much changed City, possibly with one eye on the upcoming Manchester City Cup tie, conceded a third with five minutes remaining on the clock as Etienne Capoue got himself on the scoresheet.

Teams

Watford:

Gomes, Janmaat, Wague, Kabasele, Zeegelaar, Pereyra (Holebas 69), Capoue, Cleverley, Doucoure (Watson 81), Carrillo (Richarlison 69), Deeney.

Substitutes:

Prodl, Gray, Karnezis, Okaka.

Bristol City:

5Steele, Vyner, Magnusson, Flint, Kelly, Eliasson, Smith (Pack 45), Edwards, Lemonheigh-Evans, Woodrow (Hinds 77), Taylor (Engvall 62).

Substitutes:

Fielding, Wright, Bakinson, Holden.

Speaking to the BBC’s cameras a short time after match day referee Craig Pawson blew the final whistle, Watford head coach Marco Silva explained.

‘It’s important that he’s (Deeney) back, for our team. It’s not normal in the last 10 games before this we had only him available for three games. It’s important for him to get 90 minutes into his legs as well, and great that he’s on the scoresheet as well.’

Bristol City assistant manager Dean Holden in his comparative interview explained.

‘We came here wanting to win the game, it’s the biggest cup competition in the world but we had to make decisions with everything in mind. We don’t have any regrets about selection, because those decisions were made for the right reasons.’
