Johnson Hints At Barnsley Changes

Bristol City gaffer Gary Johnson has bizarrely revealed that changes are in the offing for tomorrow’s Championship clash at Barnsley.

Following stinging criticism after the meak draw at home to struggling Peterborough last weekend, Johnson rang the changes to good effect as City banished Plymouth back down the M5 with their tails firmly between their legs in midweek.

But just as it seemed he had finally found an entertaining and successful formula, Johnson has hinted that he may rotate his squad again!

“Just because we won the last game, doesn’t mean it will be an unchanged side for the next one,” Johnson said at his weekly press conference on Thursday.

“I thought some of those lads I left out against Plymouth did alright against Peterborough. They were not the reason we only drew the game.

“If I feel people need to be dropped or rested, then that’s what I’ll do. We have a strong squad and we can change things if we want to. I did it for Plymouth and I might do it against Barnsley.”

Underperforming duo Marvin Elliott and Lee Johnson were dropped from the last weekend’s team when Argyle came to town on Tuesday and City responded with a much improved, more balanced performance.

Johnson may harp on about his use of Pro-Zone stats but I suggest he looks closer to home.

We’ve only taken six points in the seven league games his son (Lee) has started this season, scoring only four goals as a result of negative, backwards and sideways football.

In contrast, on the other six occasions his boy has been out of the starting line-up, City have notched an impressive 14 points, scoring 10 goals in the process.

“I have my ideas and so do the people sitting in the stands. They all have their own favourites. But the difference is that I will stand or fall by the decisions I make,” Johnson added.

But if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it Gary!
