Gary Johnson has lauded the efforts of his Chairman and board of directors following City’s double deadline day arrivals.

City tied up season-long loan deals for Evander Sno from Ajax and Alvaro Saborio from Swiss club FC Sion in a real signal of intent.

Johnson knows he couldn’t have pulled it off without his board dipping deep into their pockets once again.

Speaking to the club’s website, Johnson said: “The chairman’s had to okay a couple of deals for us and we thank him for that. Now we have to perform.

“We are taking a few more chances as a club in terms of who we are searching for and who we target. Often you are left disappointed but we have to keep looking for that quality if we can get it.”

On his two new arrivals, Johnson continued: “I admit I wouldn’t have thought Evander would be available to us a month or so ago. The supporters who came to the Ajax game know his qualities.

“The fans played a big part with their ovation for him in the pre-season game. That stayed with him and his dad now the prospect of him pulling on the City shirt now is an exciting one.”

Saborio has already jetted back to South America for his side’s World Cup Qualifiers but he is expected to be involved at Swansea in a fortnight’s time.

“We’re very excited about him. He’s already a regular Costa Rican international,” said Johnson.

“He’s got a fantastic goals-to-games ratio at both club and international level. Now he’s got the opportunity to fulfil his dream of playing in England with us.

“He has the mentality to join us. He can play as a target-man, although he’s not a massive Dele Adebola-size but it’s difficult to get the ball from him. He’s very sharp and we needed another striker like that.”

City also revealed that they have yet to receive any bids for Adriano Basso or Marvin Elliott, leaving the former with real egg on his face!
