Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson has called on the club to ‘build our own history’ as we look for another three points against Nottingham Forest this weekend.
With Bristol City flying high in the Championship table at the moment and with Cup success seeing us through to the quarter finals of the League Cup against Manchester United, Johnson not only has one eye on Forest this weekend he has part of an eye on potential life in the Premier League as that remains his ultimate aim.
Speaking to the Official Site in his press conference, Johnson explained.
‘The players have shown good attitude. Coming back from the international break, we’ve secured three wins on the bounce, which is brilliant, especially given the fact that we have injuries to key players. It’s a credit to the squad really, and how the players have got on with the job. I’ve had to ask players to play in different positions and I’m delighted with our points tally over the last three games.’
Johnson went on to say.
‘I think the history of the club doesn’t reflect the 11 players on the pitch, not in Nottingham Forest’s case, because they have a good side, as do a lot of clubs in the Championship. It’s up to us to build our own history. This club has history of its own but not enough as far as top-flight football is concerned so that’s what we’re trying to achieve and ascertain. Obviously Forest are a very good side with a lot of young players, a lot of bright, pacy footballers on the counter attack and it will be a tough game. I went to watch them play against Bolton last Saturday and they got a deserved victory and we’ll have to be at our best to make sure we get the result. But I think the boys are in good spirits and know we have to play better than we did in the first half against Sheffield United. We are at home and our last home game was very good against Middlesbrough and everybody believes in us at the moment and that’s the key.’
Johnson said he was also confident that we could welcome back Korey Smith for the game at Ashton Gate this weekend following the injury he picked up following a challenge by John Fleck in the tie against Sheffield United.
‘We’re hopeful on Korey. He sustained a nasty gash and hopefully just bone bruising. We’ll get him out there over the next couple of days and see how he is. We’ll give him a bit of a cuddle, a bit of love and I’m sure Korey will try and be the hero and want to be out there.’
