Out-of contract Preston full-back Billy Jones appears to have priced himself out of a move to Ashton Gate, Vital Bristol City understands.

The 24-year-old utility man has been Keith Millen’s number one target for six months, but preliminary talks failed to reach an agreement.

And Vital Bristol City believes that Jones is now on the verge of signing a three-year deal with West Brom after talks broke down over a move to bring him to Ashton Gate.

Jones wanted wages that would have made him the second highest paid player at the club, but City officials refused to budge and the deal to join West Brom is expected to go through on Friday.

Ironically, Jones will be part of the Baggies squad that comes to Ashton Gate for our final pre-season friendly on 30 July.
