City manager Keith Millen says that the current injury crisis at Ashton Gate may see him having to dabble in the loan market to shore up his side.

Millen has big problems in his defence at the moment with Jamie McAllister, Louis Carey and Cole Skuse all out of the side long term, now joining them on the treatment table are Steven Caulker and Liam Fontaine.

Right-back Jordan Spence has already been drafted in from West Ham on loan by Millen, another defender may have to come in if Fontaine requires further surgery.

Millen told the Bristol Evening Post: ‘The number of injuries we have picked up among defenders is unbelievable. They seem to be coming all at once and all in the same position.

‘The deadline for loan signings is not far away and we are going to have to have a really good think about whether we have enough to get us through the rest of the season.

‘I don’t want us to just scrape through the last eight games, I want us to finish strongly. If I feel I have to bring in another player, then I will go to the chairman and ask him if he can back me one last time.’
