Nicky Maynard turned in a Man-of-the-Match performance and bagged his 20th goal of the season on Saturday before telling City fans of his desire to get many more for us next season.

Maynard, 23, poked home a third-minute opener and a 79th-minute penalty to see off the challenge of Derby County in our last home game of the season on Saturday.

But the impressive performance of the former Crewe striker, who notched his 9th goal in as many games, caused caretaker manager Keith Millen to fear for his departure this summer.

Millen told BBC Radio Bristol after the win: “It’s not rocket science that top clubs will be looking at him, but It will take a massive offer for us to even contemplate allowing Nicky to leave.”

But in-form Maynard was already looking forward to his third season at Ashton Gate and to working under Steve Coppell’s tutelige.

“The last couple of months have proved how good we are and hopefully Steve Coppell can bring out a bit extra. The players are as excited as the fans.”

“I’m just focusing on City. I think I can get more than I did this season,”
Maynard added.

Stephen Pearson scored the consolation for Derby who will finish in mid-table.
