Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard has moved to quash speculation linking him with a move away by insisting “I’m happy here.”

The in-demand 24-year-old has been the subject of intense transfer speculation this summer with Leicester City and Nottingham Forest both publicly declaring an interest in taking the former Crewe frontman to the East Midlands.

But Maynard, who was the subject of three bids from big-spending Leicester, insists he wants to extend his stay in the West Country.

Speaking to bcfc.co.uk from City’s pre-season base in Portugal, Maynard said: “It’s just good to be back and enjoying pre-season because I didn’t even make the tour last year.

“Whatever else happens, happens. I’m happy here playing football and long may it continue.

“My agent’s been in talks with (chairman) Colin Sexstone and (vice chairman) Keith Dawe. Hopefully something will get sorted out sooner rather than later.

“I want what’s best for the club and the best for me as well. The sooner it’s done the better it will be for both parties.”
