Bristol City boss Derek McInnes is giving some thought to whether to appeal against the red card that Louis Carey was shown in the defeat at Reading.

Referee Pat Miller earned himself no friends in the City camp when he gave the Royals a penalty after a coming together of Carey and Jason Roberts, not content with making the wrong decision once, he then went on to send Carey for an early bath.

A one match ban now haunts Carey which means he will miss the game at home to Leeds United unless an appeal is launched and won.

McInnes told the Evening Post:: ‘If you look at the replay, you will see that Ryan McGivern has come round and it looks as though the ball is going to run away from Jason. When he realises he is not going to get his shot away, he goes down.

‘It was more a case of Jason having his left arm around Louis Carey’s neck than anything Louis has done to Jason. The referee is in the perfect position to make the right call. He has made a call and we have to accept that people get things wrong. But these are massive decisions and the sending off was very harsh. I’ve seen it a few times and my initial feeling is that I will appeal the decision.

‘I will sit down with other people and discuss it before making a decision, but it is certainly something I am considering.

‘For me, it was harsh on the team and very harsh on Louis Carey. I’ll take some advice before deciding what to do.’
