Both sides went into this clash at London Road desperate for the points but it was the home side who were better at just about everything on the pitch. As a result the Robins went down 3-0, that didn`t please Derek McInnes.

Posh had the lead in the seventh minute after Liam Fontaine did well to hack a George Boyd shot off the line but Tomlin was the first to react and headed home.

It was 2-0 after 62 minute when Ball scored a great individual goal.

And with six minutes left on the clock Tomlin came up with the third.

City have now managed just two goals and one point from their last five outings, yet manager Derek McInnes believes things could have been better.

He said: ‘We were fortunate to be only one down after Peterborough dominated the opening half, but then had a good 20-minute period and things could have been very different if there we had managed a goal.

‘But Peterborough held out and went on to finish worthy winners. But I am still confident we have the strength to get out of trouble without having to rely on other results going our way.’
