El-Hadji Diouf is not well known for being a nice man, in fact I would put him down as a bit of a disgusting individual which is probably why he seems to fit in so well at Leeds.
But you can’t take away the fact that e won the game for Leeds on Saturday with his brace against a City side that probably should have got something from games like this if they are to have a go for promotion.
But for all his other faults he can play football when he is in the mood to do so and he has put in a couple of good performances for the Sheep worriers of old Yorkshireville.
Diouf opened the scoring in this game after an hour of watching a game that looked destine to finish 0-0. He was also on the mark again around ten minutes before the end in a game which had an exciting end to it.
City’s luck was plain for all to see just before half time when new boy George Elokobi who has only just arrived to fill in at the back for a month landed awkwardly, needed medical treatment and then was taken off on a stretcher, leaving the Robins with youngster Joe Bryan to take his place.
Early on in the game Aidy White had a shot at goal that Heaton was able to save quite easily while at the other end of the field Ryan Taylor fired one in from 20 yards and Kenny did well in the Leeds goal to save it.
City had their fair share of efforts at the Leeds goal Liam Fontaine fired just wide of the upright and when Martyn Woolford sent over a free kick, the Leeds keeper was called upon again to save a header from Jon Stead.
Stead then tried his luck from 20 yards but again, the effort did not trouble Kenny too much. Leeds brought save out of Heaton when Rudy Austin fired in a volley and then Woolford headed an effort just wide.
After the half time break, Leeds looked threatening when Austin powered a header against the woodwork and soon after he was on target with another header but Heaton saved quite easily.
Leeds unlocked the City defence on 64 minutes when Byram sent in a low cross that reached Diouf and he put the ball into the corner of the net for 1-0.
But the Robins still had some fight left in them and were back on terms six minutes later when Foster put in a cross that Albert Adomah launched himself at and headed an unstoppable ball into the net.
On 81 minutes however, Leeds pressure paid off one again after good work by Luciano Becchio gave Diouf his chance to smash home a second, which he did from inside the box.
A couple of minutes later and Leeds looked like they had the game wrapped up when Tonge smashed home a 25 yard sizzler that gave Heaton no chance as the ball flew into his left hand corner.
City did manage to pull another goal back when a corner from Adomah when in the net off Byram’s head and Leeds hung on to take all the points.
