In fact Bristol City boss Lee Johnson has said not only have the club not had a bid for Aden Flint there’s ‘no current bids on the table’ for anyone at Ashton Gate.
Of course, that doesn’t mean this situation isn’t going to change and the Robins aren’t going to sell the in-demand Flint, or someone else, ahead of the Championship season, the closure of the transfer window even.
However, at this stage Johnson’s planning on working with those at the club.
When questioned he told the Bristol Post: ‘No, there are no current bids on the table for any of our players. I would never tell you a lie with stuff like that. Of course, you have to be careful because you can’t devalue or overvalue somebody with the comments you make.’
Johnson went on to say he’s pleased with the currently squad, in particularly the defensive options available to him, with or without Flint.
‘We’re alright, we’re pretty well set – I’m comfortable. Certainly more comfortable than this time last year. Just defensively, looking at that alone, you’ve got some really good balance and cover everywhere. And young players getting better all the time. Taylor Moore looked solid and sturdy today and young Zak Vyner has got a little niggle but he’s now played in the Championship… We’re strong at the back.’
He also said ‘we’re looking for all positions – we always do’ as far as continued recruitment goes.
Adding: ‘If the right goalkeeper becomes available or the right centre forward that we think will improve us and comes in on the right wage bracket then of course we’ll be in the market for him. Steve Lansdown’s been great. He’s never turned down anything we’ve ever asked, within reason, and we’re ready to go again.’
One who did leave recently was Lee Tomlin.
The forward was sold for an undisclosed fee to rivals Cardiff last week with Johnson telling the Official Website his departure was right for Bristol City, which can hopefully see his transfer fee reinvested into the squad.
‘I think it was right for the club, which is the most important thing. Tommo is a great lad and there`s no malice there. It`s not ideal when his personal circumstances meant he was travelling three hours to training and three hours back. For me, that wasn`t quite conducive to the culture we`re trying to create.’
Adding: ‘It was a decision we made for the right reasons of the club. Obviously we got a decent fee that we can go and reinvest to pick out a player with similar qualities.’
