Lewin Nyatanga is willing to put surgery on his knee on hold for the time being so that he can play for City and help them pull away from the drop zone.

The Welsh international has been suffering with an ankle problem which requires an operation to put right.

But there is still thirteen games to go this season and he wants to play on with the help of pain killing injections.

City manager Derek McInnes told the Bristol Evening Post: “Lewin has an underlying problem with his ankle which is causing us some concern. We`ve known all along that it is an injury that will require surgery at the end of the season.

“But we are hoping we can keep the problem at bay until then and the latest news is a wee bit more positive.

“We`ve spoken to the specialist and we feel that, with careful management of his workload, he will be back in training this week and available for selection quite soon.”

Saturday`s game against Ipswich Town is likely to be too early for him to come back, but he should be available for the game against Leicester at Ashton Gate on Tuesday.
