Orr Right

Bradley Orr was injured in challenging for a far post ball with Nicky Barmby in Saturday’s Play Off Final defeat to Hull City. The challenge saw him needing stitches behind the goal as play continued without him for fully five minutes. He returned to the pitch believing that he could play through the pain, it not being a muscular injury.

He was clearly dazed however and there was a huge whole down Bristol City’s right which was exploited by Frazier Campbell. The covering defenders were guilty of leaving Dean Windass unmarked and Campbell found him with the perfect cross and his finish was exquisite.

Bradley Orr was then helped to the ground by Dean Windass himself as the extent of his injury became apparent. Clearly concussed he had not just been cut but had also sustained a compound fracture to his cheekbone. This required surgery but today Orr is out of hospital and thanking people for their messages of support.

This was the one sour note in a Play Off Final played in an exemplary spirit. For me this was epitomised by Hull City player Sam Rickets who consoled every member of the Bristol City team at the final whistle whilst the rest of his team mates celebrated with the jubilant Tiger fans.

A fantastic day and fantastic news that Bradley Orr is well. He says he will look like the Phantom of the Opera for a while and have to wear a mask in pre-season but other than that he is fine.
