Stephen Pearson’s second half strike gave Bristol City their second helping of maximum points from the Saints this season at St Marys last night.

City move away from the relegation zone while Saints sit and wonder how a team struggling as much as the Robins have been, manage to win yet again and bring an end to Southampton`s record.

The all important goal that gave City their first win in six games came with just 11 minutes left on the clock

Pearson converted 11 minutes from time to give the Robins their first victory in six matches and deny Southampton the chance of extending their three-point lead at the top of the Championship.

Saints failed to convert possession into clear-cut chances and could have been further behind if Nicky Maynard’s 53rd-minute effort had not been ruled out for offside.

Now City sit three points clear of the drop zone.
