Goals in each half from Inigo Calderon and Will Buckley made sure Brighton had an easy win over Bristol City on the south coast on Saturday leaving manager Gus Poyet singing their praises.

Brighton already had injury problems and they got worse when record signing Craig Mackail-Smith suffered a facial injury and midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey went off with knee trouble.

But things turned around for the home side when skipper Calderon gave them the lead with an unstoppable effort from 25 yards.

Poyet said: ‘Inigo has been very important for us. I was 90 per cent sure we were going to lose him (to Southampton) at one point so obviously it’s pleasing that he’s still with us.

‘Coming back from injury, this was the best Inigo has played for a while and his goal was a spectacular one.’

Regarding his side’s overall display, Poyet added: ‘It was probably our best performance of the last two months.’
