Richard Keogh on his pride being Captain of the Republic of Ireland.

‘I found out on Thursday that I’m going to be captaining the side against Montenegro. The gaffer pulled me to one side after training to tell me and I was well chuffed. It’s an amazing feeling to play international football, and to captain the side is a massive honour. I’m very proud. I’ve captained the side once before, when we played Luxembourg last year and it’s one of the highest points of my career to date.’

‘I’m looking forward to the game, but we don’t quite know what to expect from the home support yet. The squad and management went down to the stadium to take a look and it looks like quite an unfriendly place. The fans in this part of the world have a bit of a reputation for creating hostile environments and I think that`s going to be the case for us. But when that happens you just have to be professional about it, get your head down and focus on the game. It should be interesting anyway!’
