City’s up and coming game against Bristol Rovers on August 4th is just what the side need as the start of the new season looms.

The two teams meet at Ashton Gate for a friendly which has been arranged for Louis Carey’s testimonial.

It’s the first time the two clubs have met for over five years and McInnes knows that it will be a friendly that is going to have that competitive edge about it and it will do the team a power of good just ten days before City start the season with a Capital One Cup game against Gillingham.

The boss told the Bristol Evening Post: ‘Louis considered a number of different clubs, but when Bristol Rovers came up, it appealed on a number of levels.

‘Given that it comes ten days before our first competitive game against Gillingham (in the League Cup), I wanted a competitive match.

‘I hope it will be a great day for Louis Carey and that lots of people turn up and enjoy themselves. But by the same token, there will be a real edge and bite to the game and that can only be good in terms of our pre-season preparation.”
