Cole Skuse says that City should not have got themselves into the position of needing to win their last home game of the season to secure their Championship status.

It`s fair to say that this season has not been what the fans expected, its been a bit of a bumpy ride with a change of manager and players not performing up to the standard which they can play at.

Skuse is the first to admit that their fight against relegation would not be upon them if players had not under-archived during the season.

City secure safety with a win against Barnsley and in turn that will see Portsmouth and Coventry drop into league one, leaving the Robins to take on Burnley at Turf Moor in the final game with a lot less pressure on them.

But Skuse feels things need to improve.

kuse said to the Bristol Evening Post: ‘It should not take us dropping into the bottom three to spark us into life. We should never have been in this situation in the first place.

‘It all stemmed from the beginning of the season when we made a really bad start. We have made terrible starts to the last two seasons, not picked up enough points and given ourselves a mountain to climb.

‘We’re missing out by a nose at the moment and we are still looking at other results. But we should not be doing that. With the players we have in our squad, we know we ought to be doing better and we have to take full responsibility for that”.
