City boss Derek McInnes says that things are not yet finalised for the new season are there is still time for players to turn his head in their direction before the big kick-off.

A strong side took to the field last night against Southampton and they managed a good 1-1 draw, but that side is not necessarily his side that will start the new season.

There is still time for any of his players to book themselves a place in the side that faces Gillingham in the League Cup next Tuesday.

McInnes told the Bristol Evening Post: ‘People are always going to try and read things into my team selections at this stage of pre-season.

‘I know the formation I want to take into the first game and I also know how I want my team to play.

‘But I have not decided on my starting eleven and there are still a few places up for grabs.”
