Ticket Master or Ticket Mayhem?

We are at Wembley. Fantastic! It is the most lucrative game in football. Fantastic! It is worth an estimated £60 million to the winner. Fantastic! But once again such a major event in the clubs history is soured by the ticketing policy. Colin Sextone wants the tickets sold and bums on seats. Fair enough. He chose Ticket Master to outsource this work to. Fair enough.

There is no doubt that Ticket Master can shift tickets in vast quantities very quickly. But when spending a fortune on tickets for any other event in the world I would expect some choice. Those that rang earliest yesterday will have the lowest number blocks (mostly in the corners of the stadium). Those ringing later got prime seats over the half way line. Is this fair?

I am going with 15 good friends but there was no flexibility in ticket sales. We are strung out in a long line and in the first available block (No.129). If I ordered theatre tickets for a largish party of people I could arrange a block of seats across three rows if I booked early enough. The same is true when going to the cinema, or a concert. Why are football fans again treated differently? We get what we are given and have no choice but to accept the treatment that goes with following a football club.

We’re at Wembley though so who gives a stuff?

Wembley!

The Bristol City Supporters Trust are rallying to get anyone who wants to stand and bounce and sing into the same blocks (Nos. 133, 134, 135 behind the goal). They ask that you insist on a seat in one of those blocks an if refused that you hang up the telephone. Those that want to be on the half way line will have that option. Those that want to sing will be together. Perhaps we will all be singing but I like the stand the Trust is making. Join up and give them your support and make a difference in YOUR club.
