Bristol City caretaker manager Steve Wigley was left ripping his hair out after his short time as caretaker manager came to an end with a defeat at Crystal Palace.

The only goal of the game came from the boot of Glenn Murray from twelve yards after Lewin Nyatanga was adjudged to have brought down Jon Williams in the area.

Wigley felt the game was won by Palace because the referee did not do his job properly as he could not believe that Iain Williamson had given a penalty for the incident.

He said after the game: ‘I thought we were worth something in the game and were good for spells. I always felt it would come down to one goal and you always hope it won’t come down to a refereeing decision.

‘Unfortunately tonight it did. I was brought up not to criticise referees, but if I didn’t say what I thought I would be letting my players down because they don’t deserve to be on the wrong end of somebody not being able to do their job properly.’
