Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson has confirmed that Bailey Wright is a doubt for Friday’s clash with Derby County.

The Australian international is being carefully assessed and managed as he awaits the results of a knee scan and the defender has been playing through pain in recent times.

With a number of players sidelined and then the midweek clash against Manchester City in the League Cup semi final following Derby, Johnson knew there was a certain amount of juggling that would probably take place for both matches.

Speaking to the Official Site to discuss injury concerns at the moment, Johnson explained.

‘At the moment it`s a case of sussing out the walking wounded. Bailey Wright has had a scan on his knee so we will have to see how that comes back. It`s been niggling away. Famara Diédhiou has been training but we have to judge that one and see how comfortable we are with throwing him straight back in or not.’

Johnson went on to explain.

‘Matty Taylor has had a hernia issue in his stomach/groin area so we haven`t been able to get him as many minutes as we would have hoped. Gustav Engvall has been out with a hip problem so at the moment we are having steal as many minutes out of the ones who are chasing a little bit. Taylor has played in games but he hasn`t been in training due to the pain he has been in. But again it shows the character of the player because he`s strong enough to get through it.’

The gaffer also confirmed that Gary O’Neil was back running now following his lengthy absence following knee surgery and Milan Djuric is back in Italy undergoing muscle realignment work.
