A goal 11 minutes from time by on-loan Derby midfielder Stephen Pearson was enough for Bristol City to earn all three points from the trip to Southampton on Friday and left boss Derek McInnes saying his side were brilliant.

City ended Saints 24 game unbeaten home run and take maximum points to help themselves out at the foot of the table.

And the City boss applauded his side’s commitment and resolve as they made it two from two versus Southampton.

McInnes said: ‘We have shown a lot of resolve and I am very pleased with each and every one of the players. They have all performed brilliantly tonight.

‘We have now beaten the best side in the league twice this season and it amazes me how we can do that but struggle to get results elsewhere.

‘We asked a lot of questions when we were beaten against Coventry in our last game but the players have bounced back and showed a lot of commitment and confidence to beat such a good side who I have such admiration for.’
