Birmingham City gave Bristol City a lesson in clinical finishing and then showed they had the quality to defend a lead as they ran out deserved winners at Ashton Gate. Bristol City came back strongly in the second half but had only an inspirational opportunistic goal from Lee Trundle to show for their efforts. Birmingham took an early lead as Louis Carey glanced a floated free kick beyond Adriano Basso into his own net. A slik passing move following a misplaced pass saw Cameron Jerome finish expertly for he second. City huffed and puffed but a lack of qulity in the final third saw them unrewarded until Trundle latched onto a misplaced clearance from goalkeeper Maik Taylor to loop the ball into the net from fully forty yards. It proved to be only a consolation.
