Manager Lee Johnson has said that taking two Premier League scalps in the EFL Cup so far this season shows that Bristol City are progressing well as a side.

Having already seen off Marco Silva’s Watford side and now Mark Hughes’ Stoke City, Bristol City are set for a fourth round tie against former England manager Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace.

Speaking to the Bristol Post Johnson was adamant that it was evidence the club continued to grow and he loves the fact we are getting a small ‘giant killer’ reputation.

It’s also the second time we have reached the fourth round stage of the Cup, but of course this time last year we didn’t face a Premier League side so this is a touch extra special.

‘To beat Premier League opposition twice on the spin shows we are progressing as a club and that is what we want to do, even if we are tired from all the games. We just want to progress as quickly as we can and if that means having success in the cup then that is good.’

Johnson went on to add.

‘Having spoken to Mark Hughes afterwards he was very complimentary about the players and it was good to sit in and have a good chat with the quality of management they have. It was a great result, now we roll on.’
