City leading the chase for Phillips

City have approached Wycombe Wanderers over the signing of highly-rated left winger Matt Phillips, according to SkySports.com.

A number of clubs have been chasing the 19-year-old winger after impressing for club and country.

Preston and Southampton were thought to be in pole position to sign the youngster but City boss Steve Coppell has stolen a march on them both by lodging a bid with the Chairboys.

The Robins have been without a natural left-winger since Michael McIndoe left to join Coventry this time last year.
