Speaking ahead of Bristol City’s clash against Sunderland, manager Lee Johnson confirmed that Famara Diedhiou and Jens Hegeler were set for a spell on the sidelines.

Diedhiou damaged his knee ligaments during a fall in the League Cup victory over Crystal Palace last midweek. Having been substituted just after the half hour mark in the four one victory, a full assessment has been done on the injury and the Senegalese international as suffered a medial ligament tear.

It means he will be out for up to three months.

Hegeler has now undergone the planned knee surgery on his issue and is also set to be out for between 12 to 14 weeks.

Speaking to the Official Site, Johnson explained.

‘It was quite a bad fall and Fam has badly injured his knee. It`s a grade two tear of the medial ligament, which means ten to 12 weeks out. It`s not as bad as first feared but it`s still bad.’

As for Hegeler, he went on to add.

‘Jens required a cartilage repair operation in Germany, which is where he will now spend half of his rehab, before returning to England.’
